VILLA UNBEATEN RUN ENDED AT SPURS

Aston Villa were unable to build on a fantastic away win over Manchester United in the Premier League as their unbeaten run came to an end as a result of the 2-1 defeat suffered at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur.


Villa were on the run of a two-game unbeaten run before they faced Tottenham Hotspur at the new Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The run began with the emphatic home win over Everton thanks to the second half goals from Englishman Matty Cash, Lucas Digne (own goal) and Jamaican winger Leon Bailey. Villa were able to hand Everton their first defeat of the season. The win over Everton was followed by the fantastic win over Manchester United thanks to the second half header from Kourtney Hause.

Zimbabwe midfielder Marvelous Nakambafeatured in one of the two games during Villa’s recent unbeaten run. The Zimbabwe national team player came off the benchwith five first half minutes left during the Everton game and in the place of the injured John McGinn.It was just the second league appearance for the Zimbabwe national team player.Nakamba was then benched for the Manchester United game and the Spurs encounter which ended the recent unbeaten run.

Villa boss Dean Smith would have been hoping that his players would be able to build on the big win at Manchester United when they faced Spurs at the weekend. Smith saw his team dominate the opening minutes of the Spurs game but they were not able to make it count with at least a goal before their hosts warmed up to their task.

Spurs were rewarded with a goal through Danish player Pierre-Emile Hojbjergoff the assist from Son Heung-Min once the home team warmed up to their task. Ollie Watkins equalised for Villa midway into the second half but parity lasted for just four minutes before Matt Targett diverted a Son Heung-Min’s cross into his own net for the game’s winning goal.
