REVIEW: LEICESTER CITY VS ASTON VILLA

Leicester City returned to winning ways as they put four goals past Aston Villa. Brendan Rodger’s side have only taken two points from their last four league outings and looking further back they have won just two matches in their last eight matches. A poor run of form that has seen the Foxes lose their grip in the race to UEFA champions league spot at the end of the season.

Before their poor run of form, they were the closest to Liverpool and were ahead of Manchester City. They are now 3rd in the league, 5 points ahead of Chelsea in fourth place and 4 points behind Pep Guardiola’s men in second place, albeit they have played a game more.

The Foxes took the lead in the 40th minute when Harvey Barnes took advantage of Pepe Reina’s indecision. The first half ended in a 1-0 lead.

Jamie Vardy was introduced on the hour mark and his first impact on the game was to score from the spot. The goal was the first for Vardy in 10 games. Vardy added the third of the game and his own second in the 79th minute. Barnes added the gloss to an already impressive score line. The three points is the bag and the Foxes can look forward to the next match.

For Aston Villa It was a disappointing evening for Dean Smith’s side. They were very poor, and they got everything they deserve in the match, Nothing!

The defeat leaves the Blue and Claret army in 19th in the table and they play Chelsea next in the league. Villa will host the Blues at Villa Park next weekend.

The best player for Villa’s on the night was Zimbabwe international Marvelous Nakamba. He is their best player for the second game running and appeared to do it all on his own. He was brought down in the 76th minute and a free kick was given. The 35-yard kick was booted away and that was one of their closest attempts all night.
